Vaccines for Kittens & Cats

As part of our commitment to preventative healthcare, we recommend a vaccination plan for all our furry patients. Vaccines aren’t one-size fits all so we provide individualized advice based on your pet’s needs and risk factors of contracting certain diseases. We want to protect your pet against preventable diseases that would otherwise cause serious health issues.

What vaccines does my kitten need?

Vaccines are separated into required (core) and risk-based (non-core), depending on how susceptible your furry feline is to certain diseases. Their mother’s milk provides some antibodies that fight against diseases when they’re first born but this protection does not last long. To set up a vaccination plan for your pet, please contact 613-634-7474. Kittens should get the following vaccines, starting during their first few weeks of life:

• Feline panleukopenia (FPV)
• Feline calicivirus (FCV)
• Feline leukemia (FeLV)
• Feline herpesvirus-1 (FHV-1)
• Rabies

What vaccines does my cat need?

The range of time between booster vaccines depends on the vaccines. It could range from 1-3 years but it’s essential that your pet’s vaccination plan is updated annually. Your feline friend will need boosters of the following vaccines all throughout their life:

• Feline panleukopenia (FPV)
• Feline calicivirus (FCV)
• Feline leukemia (FeLV)
• Feline herpesvirus-1 (FHV-1)
• Rabies
• Chlamydia (non-core)

Are there alternatives to vaccines?

We believe vaccines are safe and effective ways to protect your pet against preventable diseases and infections. Vaccines undergo lengthy testing to ensure they are safe for your pet. Though there is no way to guarantee they’ll be 100% effective, they are your pet’s best protection against many health complications.
